A look back at 2025: our year at Open Funk

A look back at 2025: our year at Open Funk

Another year has flown by, and just like that, 2025 is already behind us. Before stepping into what’s next, we wanted to take a moment to look back and share some of the highlights that shaped our year at Open Funk.

From design awards to community moments, from production milestones to sustainability conversations, 2025 was full of meaningful steps forward. Here’s a little flashback.

January : Kicking off the year on screen!

We started 2025 on a creative note with the release of the teaser for Hummus, a short film by Marcelo Rod, where re:Mix made a special appearance. Seeing our blender featured in such a thoughtful and artistic project set the tone for the year ahead.

February : A Design Award & inspiring encounters

In February, we traveled to Frankfurt to receive the German Design Award for re:Mix in the category Excellent Product Design Kitchen. A proud moment for our entire team.

While there, we also had the chance to meet one of our sustainability heroes, Kate Raworth from Doughnut Economics. Conversations like these remind us why we do what we do.

March : behind the scenes of production

Ken traveled to Jiangmen, China, to visit our blade and jar seal supplier. Together, we worked on improving blade quality and reviewed the final results. Our partners were surprised (and impressed!) to learn that most re:Mix parts are made and assembled by us in Berlin; not exactly a typical industry setup, and exactly how we like it.

April : Cooking & connecting with our community

April marked the launch of a new series focused on meeting our users and cooking together. The first stop was Berlin, where we spent a beautiful moment sharing food, ideas, and stories with Melinda. Amazing moment!

May : re:Mix at the German Technology Museum

We visited the Tech Lab at the German Technology Museum, a space dedicated to digital manufacturing and sustainability. Seeing re:Mix showcased there was a proud reminder that small, circular ideas can find their place in big conversations.

June : Sustainability goes international

The iconic Japanese magazine Brutus released a special issue focused on decarbonization and sustainability, and Open Funk was part of it. Being included in such a thoughtful publication was an honor.

July : Growing comes with challenges

Storing 5,000 blades in our Berlin atelier wasn’t exactly easy, but seeing the project grow to this scale made it more than worth it. A very tangible sign that the journey is moving forward.

August : Lauching our upcycled coasters!

We launched our new coasters, made from upcycled re:Mix materials. A small object with a big message: waste can always become a resource.

September : "On the air" in Canada

Open Funk was featured on CBC Canada’s radio show “What on Earth”, in an episode focused on climate solutions and products built to last. Sharing our vision beyond borders felt especially meaningful.

October : Giving blenders a second life

We introduced refurbished re:Mix blenders, giving returned or repaired devices a second chance. Because durability and circularity don’t stop at the first owner.

November : Sharing Knowledge

We launched two educational series on zero waste & circular economy, plus a new post series to help you choose the right jar for every blend.

December : Ending the year in blue

We closed the year with the release of re:Mix Blue, a limited edition created in support of Clean My Calanques, in collaboration with Le Pavé. A project combining design, impact, and collective action, the perfect way to end 2025.

Thank You for Being Part of the Journey 💚

None of this would be possible without our community, users, partners, supporters, and curious minds following along. Thank you for being part of the Open Funk story.

Here’s to 2026, and to continuing this journey together.
